Planning a destination wedding in Mexico has been all I’ve talked about since before Scott put a ring on it. As a wedding photographer, there are no doubts that I knew exactly what I wanted when the day came to marry my forever love. San José del Cabo is a special place for Scotty and myself. We both have always loved Baja Sur, as it was a frequent vacation spot for us with our friends prior to us ever meeting. After falling in love and eventually getting engaged at Flora Farms, it was in the cards for us to get married in Cabo. Right down the street from our proposal spot is Acre Resort, a slice of heaven that we fell in love with.
Acre is set amongst a lush tropical oasis in the middle of the desert. It is every bit chic, modern, and lavish. Luxury treehouses, an exquisite restaurant, peacocks roaming the property, a mango orchard with colorful tiles set under twinkle lights… the list is deep on why we actually booked it as our wedding venue before we were officially engaged.
I have a deep appreciation for a setting that feels as though it can simply be as it is without having to add or enhance it. The lush natural setting of Acre makes you feel like you’re in the Caribbean. The culinary experience and modern, luxurious vibes is one of the top reasons people visit Acre and why we chose it as our wedding venue. I’m excited to highlight and share our experience planning a destination wedding at Acre Resort in San José del Cabo.
Working with a planner should be a must for all weddings, especially when you’re planning a destination wedding. It eliminates avoidable headaches from the start. We were lucky enough to work with Elsa of Lola Del Campo Events. From helping us solidify our vendors to planning and timeline creation, to all floral design and styling, we appreciate the fact that Lola and Elsa were involved in all aspects of our wedding. Lola and Elsa are local to Mexico and had an endless amount of relationships and recommendations. This is extremely helpful when planning a destination wedding, especially considering all of their recommendations and referrals were wonderful and easy to work with.
Above all, my biggest advice for anyone considering or planning a destination wedding is to hire a local planner who has experience and is familiar with the market, venue, and destination. “I don’t know what we would do without Elsa” became a frequent phrase from us and our families as we planned our dream destination wedding week in Cabo.
Our planner Elsa helped us secure a group rate at Marquis Los Cabos All Inclusive Resort which is about 20 minutes from Acre Resort. Our experience at Marquis exceeded our expectations. On the wedding day itself, the bridal party got ready at Marquis. Shuttles transported us to Acre. We rented a treehouse where I put my dress on. The treehouses are picturesque and set among palm trees. We used the treehouse solely as a spot for me to throw my dress on and to elevate our “getting ready” photos.
The best food you’ll ever have. Truly. Most importantly, order extra cheddar biscuits! One of the many reasons we chose Acre to host our wedding was the superb food quality and culinary experience. The acclaimed menu is out of this world and we wanted our friends & family to experience a place that was every bit tasty as it was swanky and memorable. You can’t go wrong with any of the food choices at Acre. Eating dinner in the Mango Orchard under the Baja stars surrounded by family and friends is a memory I’ll forever cherish.
An easy 20 minute drive from Marquis to Acre. The last 5 minute stretch is off a dirt road neighboring other noteworthy farm-to-table restaurants – Flora Farms and Los Tarmarindos.
Photography and videography was at the top of our list. I met Matt and Jess years ago when I was new to Denver and was an instant fan of their work and artistic style. I was always certain they were who I wanted to document our wedding day. Matt and Jess flew in from Ojai, California and so beautifully captured the entirety of our destination wedding week. Our wedding video gets played on repeat at our house and we haven’t stopped looking through our wedding photos.
One of our top memories from the wedding night was pro saxophone player Jason Whitmore performing while dancing under the stars with our friends. Seeing that Scott and I originally met at a GRiZ concert, it felt fitting hiring a saxophonist to elevate the dancing portion of the night. The party vibes and energy were electric. It brought me back to the night Scott and I met at Red Rocks.
“What would you change about your wedding?” I hear this question often. My answer is simple: We are in love with everything about our wedding experience. Hosting a destination wedding is an experience we are forever grateful for. That is to say, I would marry Scott anywhere on the universe and my soul would be equally as happy.
To sum it up, if you are in the boat of planning a destination wedding or simply visiting Cabo, consider Acre Resort. Hire vendors that you mesh well with. Make it what you want it to be. Then get ready for an epic party!
